The covered wagon arrives at our destination.  We had a BBQ up on this hill top.  Beautiful view.

Tying out the horses while we enjoy a late lunch.  Notice that it is fairly windy.

The Big Brothers/Big Sisters (BB/BS) kids came up on 3 hay wagons and enjoyed burgers with the cattle drive crew.  We had 65-70 of them up with us.  They were fascinated with the horses.  It doesn't matter the situation; kids and animals have a special understanding.

A couple of the young boys hash things out at the top of the draw.

Roasting one lone marshmallow.  This was a hungry crew.  All the burgers were gone and even the beanpot is empty!

DRI Herdsman Mike Hall (right) got tapped to sing along with Cowboy Poet/Singer Billy Whitfield and his son Mark (just out of the photo).  The kid in the upper right doesn't seem too impressed with Mike's abilities!  Billy & Mark traveled up and donated their services to help make the day special for the riders and the kids.  In one of those weird  little chances of fate, I first met Billy when he ultrasound sorted our cattle at the feedlot into slaughter groups.  Next thing he knew, I'd conned him into singing for us!  He is truly a cowboy and a gentleman with all the best that implies.  I couldn't help but think that those kids wouldn't need BB/BS if they'd had a Dad or Grandpa like him.

Mark & Billy Whitfield (son & father) sing for our group with the beautiful Flinthills as a backdrop.  I don't know when I've enjoyed a day more.
