Laura Cate catches a little sack time...literally.Our former herdsman and great friend, Mike Hall, has moved on to Virginia. His wife finished her PhD and took a post-doc at Virginia Tech. We miss Mike and Marla very much and wish them best of luck in this new phase of their life!

Cattle in the Flinthills - We're truly blessed to spend our working days surrounded by open range. If you've never been here, the Flinthills shoot holes in the "Kansas is Flat" myth. While the horizon looks level, erosion over the eons has formed beautiful hills with some pretty amazing elevation changes trimmed with limestone ridges, springs, timbered draws and the like.

draws, Sept. 2006. Dial-ups beware: larger file size. I'll
redo those some night when it's not so late! January 2004 - bringing the cows
home to calve after an ice storm. 2 photos. As you'll see,
these girls have had to work for their keep! December 2004 - misty day in
the British. Bringing the cows home cross country about 4 miles. "Heifers in the mist"...not
to be confused with the more famous "Gorillas in the Mist." But I
digress. Our daughters helping move

Weaning day using
fenceline weaning.
We'll never go back! 4 photos. Prescribed burning is how mother nature maintains open range in our part
of the world. What nature used to do with lightning strikes and the
Indians did to attract the buffalo, we now do to keep trees in check and
maintain the native prairie habitat. In this photo gallery, we are
burning some CRP ground, spring 2006. -

her easy keeping abilities and one of her sons, DRI Future Direction 3222. Good temperaments are more
than "just a convenience!" BB/BS Cattle Drive - A annual fundraiser for Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Manhattan. Riders pay to help drive our herd down the road and cross country from our ranch in Wabaunsee County to our "British Pasture" in Riley County, KS. In the last 5 years, we've helped raise over $25,000 for BB/BS!

Barb completes her first marathon Barb goes to Ghana with Kansas
Agriculture and Rural Leadership Program (KARL). Photo gallery and
brief descriptions. On the 4th of July, we have our
annual fireworks celebration at Lake JoeBeGone. Here are a few
photos from 2006. My cousin pointed out that there
were no chickens on this website. I have remedied that unfortunate
